I was born in Berlin during the war and later became a
pupil of Hans Goetsch. His strong, realistic post war paintings in and around
Berlin, where he could often be seen putting up his easel., were hanging in
Town Houses and many municipal buildings, always recognisable for his bold
charcoal drawings and thoughtful watercolours. Although I have lived in
Camberley since 1965, it was not until our 2 children were at school, when I
started painting in earnest and, like Hans Goetsch, I paint what I see and make
strong statements, unconsciously revealing emotions. I see and love the vibrant
colours in the world around me. A particular interest in life drawing has
remained, as it is the most challenging of all landscapes and as such an
important discipline for artists. Nature is my source for inspiration, even if
it develops into the abstract. Of course, art is artificial by definition and
can't equal nature's infinite beauty even where it seems cruel. It is that
beauty - not prettiness - which I seek and often miss in post-modern art.
I have been exhibiting in galleries in New York, New
Jersey, Berlin, Osnabrück, Cape Town, London and elsewhere in the UK.
Acquisitions have been made by: Museum of Fine Arts,
Caracas; Museum of Ecumenical Knights of Malta; Gallery Menzel, Berlin; Royal
Surrey Hospital, Guildford; Clare Park Hospital, Farnham; Diva Gallery, Odiham.
